What's New in This Version / Known Issues:
IMPORTANT: 0 SERVERS ISSUE We are currently seeing intermittent problems in establishing a connection with the main Stats Server. It does not appear to be system wide, nor does it appear to effect all users. But it does mean some users may be experiencing an inability to connect to any servers at all.
Before using the beta, please shut down Drumbeat. Delete any server lists you may have in your Downloads folder, or any other folder within your Downloads folder, such as those in your Additional Servers folder.
Go to Your Home Folder/Library/Preferences (In Classic, this is System Folder/Preferences). Delete the Drumbeat Server Cache file, and, if it is present, the Drumbeat Server List.txt file.
If you have been getting good server numbers in the past, you may want to simply move these files to another location on your hard drive, instead of trashing them. If this fix gets you more servers, you may safely trash these files.
Then startup Drumbeat. You should now get a normal number of servers within the first 2-3 minutes.
If not, please email support with your results.
If this does fix your issue, you can try using your old stored server lists, but do not re-use your old Drumbeat Server Cache file and/or Drumbeat Server List.txt file.
If your old server lists do not add servers, or you see a return of the issue, shut down DB, delete your new Drumbeat Server Cache, Drumbeat Server List.txt, if present, and all old Server List files within your Downloads Folder or subfolder. Restart Drumbeat, and download new Server Lists. Drumbeat should start using your new Server Lists within minutes, without any need of a restart.
We don't recommend downloading more than one new server list per week, or maintaining more than 20 total Server Lists at one time.
Please also note that you will generally not receive any additional response from support if this is your issue. If you feel you're still having a problem, please feel free to send an additional email to support to bypass the automated system.
An Important Note About Stuffit Expander:
Drumbeat is compressed using the latest version of StuffIt. Using an older version of StuffIt to de-compress it may not work. If you experience an error when trying to open Drumbeat which says, "The document Drumbeat could not be opened because the program which created it could not be found", then you have an older version of Stuffit Expander somewhere on your Hard Drive. First, download and install a fresh copy of Stuffit Expander from:
Then drag all previous copies which exist on your hard drive of Stuffit Expander to the Trash. Then, also drag any copies of Drumbeat you have to the Trash. Empty the Trash. Then Download a fresh copy of Drumbeat. This should correct the problem.
Drumbeat 2.0.1 Released
Drumbeat 2.0.1 is a minor interim release solely to address an issue involving incorrect server interactions.
Tiger users should note that in version 2.0.1 under Mac OS 10.4.x, a second Help Menu may appear next to the first. This is a purely cosmetic issue, but we are working to repair it.
What's New in Drumbeat 2:
• Deep Search
Groundlevel is extremely excited to introduce a completely new conceptin File-Sharing: Deep Search scans deeper levels of online Users’ Shared Folders than ever before, retrieving more than 5 times the search results of any currently available application, Mac or PC. In test results, Deep Search has so far achieved more than 25,000 results(did you actually read that?!) for popular search phrases, an increase of more than 250% over our already Record-Breaking Drumbeat 165. We think that ROCKS!!
• Localized Versions
Drumbeat is now available in Ten Languages: Français, Italiano, Deutsch, Español, Nederlandse, Dansk, Svenska, Português, and English. Download it Here!
• Find-As-You-Type Filtering
How do you find your way through 25,000 results? Just start typing! DB now automatically filters all your search results, continually narrowing your search down to exactly the files you want. Find what you're looking for, and then filter again. And you never have to repeat that search again!
• CPU and Bandwidth Throttles
Users can now control how much of their CPU time is devoted to Drumbeat, and the amount of Bandwidth Drumbeat uses for Uploads and Downloads. Users may also select how much priority Drumbeat gives to the speed at which Server Connections are attempted and to the Buffer Size of all Socket Connections. (Some features OS X Only).
• Full-Featured Favorites List
The ability Add/Remove Favorite Users, more quickly see which Favorite Users are On/Offline, Ignore certain Users from future incoming Chat messages, and Drumbeat now retains a FullHistory of User interactions for the current session.
• Full Resume for Downloading Files
All Files in the Tasks List are now retained if the program is Closed, Quit, or otherwise interrupted unexpectedly. The Tasks List is then re-loaded and all previous Downloads are re-attempted. Those which were in progress when stopped will resume from the point they left off.
• Manual Upload Control
Control-Click the User's name in the Upload Queue Favorites List and select Show Uploads. The User's list of queued files will be shown in the Tasks List. Control-Click any of that User's files in the Tasks List and select Manual Upload. This will send the file to the head of the Queue and start the Upload as soon as the remote Client next sends a request for the file.
• Auto-Browse
When a User is selected in the Favorites Window and the Browse Button is clicked, Drumbeat will automatically attempt a Direct Browse of the User's files. If this service is unavailable in the User's client software, DB will then attempt a Server Browse for each of the Networks to which the User is currently connected until there is a successful Browse.
• Change Mac FileType, Creator and File Extension
for incoming files. By default, DB downloads all .mp3's and any file for which the extension of the file is either not present or unrecognized, as an Mac iTunes file. To change the filetype manually, Select Change File Info... from the Tasks List Contextual Menu.
• Quick-Share New Files/Folders.
You can now immediately share any file/folder on your hard drive by adding that files or folder to your Downloads Folder. To use this feature, select Add Shared Files... from the File Menu.
• Faster and more sophisticated Network Switch
When the connection to a User or Server for a file being downloaded is lost, DB now quickly searches for that User (if they are found on another Network) and re-establishes the connection, in most cases, before your place in Queue is lost. If they are not immediately found, DB will continue searching for them until they are either found or the Task is cancelled.
• Save Partial Files
You can now save a partially downloaded file to another location for a later resume of the download. Control-Click any download in the Tasks List and select Save Partial To... to copy the partially downloaded file to another location on your Hard Drive. Later, you can perform a search for the same file from a different User. When ready to begin the download, Control-Click the desired file in Search Results and select Resume Using File... Navigate to the location of the previously copied file to have the Download resume from where it left off.
• Ability to find and use .wsx Server Lists from WinMX Users
• Corrected problem of Low Server Counts in version 1.6.5. • Corrected problem of the invalidating of valid Registration codes and/or mistaking a valid code as already being online.• Corrected problem of a user after having entered a valid code and restarting, was then asked to re-register. • Pointer error in the client signature has been corrected. • Many other bug fixes.
• More... For more details and instructions for all the New Features in Drumbeat 2, please visit the New Features Section of ourTIL.
Important Notes / Known Issues: •Under Tiger, Mac OS 10.4.x, a second Help Menu may appear next to the first. This is a purely cosmetic issue, but we are working to repair it.
• Deleting the first item in either the Search History Popup Menu or the User History Popup Menu, or the item already selected, does not work. To delete the first, or selected, item in either list, first select another item, then re-select the initial item while holding down the Command Key.
• The Browse command in the Find User Window sometimes produces no results. This is due to the Browse command not being supported by some Servers. If this occurs, open the More Info disclosure triangle and select a different Network. Then try Browse again.
• For some Users, a Spinning Disc may appear (OS X), or an apparent "hang" of a duration of about 5-10 sec.or more (Classic) may occur about every 20 sec. when Drumbeat has first started. This situation is harmless -- if annoying -- and if allowed to resolve itself, will return to normal operations. No attempts to force quit, especially under OS 9 or earlier should be tried. This problem also diminshes with time, so leaving Drumbeat open for about an hour or so should show the problem as no longer occurring thereafter. We are working to correct this issue as quickly as possible.
• When asked to Update, if your Web Browser is not open before clicking the Update Button, a false report may be made by the system that your Browser has Force Quit. Making sure that your Browser is open before clicking Update should eliminate this problem.
• At times, a download may appear to be stalled. Selecting (highlighting) the file in the Tasks List may cause the file to start reporting correctly again.
